The Scoop on Full Color Brochures
Brochures are those informational marketing documents that you see everywhere. They are at the bank offering account deals that can’t be beat while you stand in line to make a deposit. At a trade show, everyone ends up with a handful of full color brochures to take back to the hotel room at the end of each day. As you wait for a table in the restaurant, multiple brochures in rack card holders advertise the most exciting entertainment in town. Anyone can run everyday errands and return home with a brochure from nearly every stop. Yet, many will not pick up even one. So how do you make an irresistible brochure that stands out from the rest?
Create professional quality, eye-popping colorful brochures with full color printing. Also known as four color, this method of printing brochures uses the primary colors of ink (CMYK), rather than the primary colors of light (RGB), which means that the images will appear more clear and bright on paper. The RGB (red, green, blue) method only appears professional on screen, hence the use of RGB colors for websites and other non-print material. Even though the combination of the three colors – cyan, magenta, and yellow – can create dark hues, the black ink (what the “K” stands for) is included for a truer black color. Most commercial printers use 4 color but not all, which is why you will need to double check on the website or give them a call.
Of course, four color printing alone cannot increase your ROI. Create a stunning cover page that cannot be ignored. To do this, write a headline that makes an alluring yet believable offer. It needs to be something that no other business is providing. Use a font that is easily readable and large enough to be seen from a few feet away. Include an image that supports the offer, one that enhances believability. Use only two or three different colors, and make sure that they contrast well so the headline pops out from the background.
Brochures are available by the dozens. Make sure that yours get the attention they deserve by using full color printing and a cleverly designed cover.

Imagine opening your mailbox and finding an beautiful graphic designed oversized printed postcard. Now, what’s your next move? Obviously, your curiosity is probably piqued. So, you at least give the postcard a glance. As a business owner considering a postcard printing campaign, would you consider this a marketing success story if this postcard had been yours? Did it catch your attention ?
Therein lies the power of big postcard printing. For example, 6 X 11 or 7 X 10 postcards are large enough to really jump out at your potential customers while still being cost effective. This is especially true for postcard printing campaigns of 1000 or more pieces. So consider these pros and cons as you weigh whether or not big postcard printing is right for you.
Pros
Final thoughts
Large postcard printing is not for everybody, but I highly recommend utilizing them. While you do increase the likelihood that a customer will read your postcard, there are cost tradeoffs that must be carefully considered. As most businesses have come to understand though, a slight increase in your response rate for a campaign can result in large return on investment gains.
Find a professional printing firm that can handle direct mail services as well as the postcard printing duties. This will not only save you time and money but also they can give you information about oversized postcard printing bulk mail solutions.
If you have any questions regaarding your postcard campaign, or graphic design, please feel free to call me. My name is Richard Breene. I can be reached at (818) 885-7900 PST http://www.BreeneGraphics.com

Postcard Printing like a Professional
Postcards are a versatile and effective marketing tool. Use them to announce a big sale, invite people to an open house, or offer discounts. The key to great postcard marketing is to grab attention and tell people what is in it for them to take action. Here are some tips for creating postcards like a pro.
Keep the Message Simple
If people come across a postcard filled with text, they will feel overwhelmed and just discard it. Only try to make one point per postcard. Offer a discount. Invite people to your event. Introduce a new product or service. Simply use as little text as possible to convey your message when postcard printing.
Design the Front and Back
Put something eye catching on both the front and back of your postcard printing design. Many people will first see your postcard face down, so include some bright colors and attention getting words like “Free,” or “Sale,” or “Opportunity of a Lifetime,” or “Lose 10lbs Fast” on both sides of the card.
Stick to One or Two Fonts
There are a lot of great fonts out there, but resist the temptation to put all of them on your postcard. To keep it looking professional stick to one or two fonts.
Make Your Logo Prominent
Be sure the recipient knows who the postcard came from. Put your logo in a prominent place on the front and back of your postcard printing design. Make sure it is large enough to get attention.
Use a Photograph
When postcard printing, a great photo can add interest, making people want to look at it. Choose something attractive that relates to your message.
Include a Call to Action
Do not forget a call to action when postcard printing. Tell the reader what to do and how to do it. Ask recipients to “Call now,” or give them a any reason to act quickly by making a limited time offer.
Use Color to Attract Attention
Make your postcard stand out from the pile of bills. Use bright, cheerful colors that attract attention. Four color postcard printing companies online offer comparable prices to the black and white printing by most local printing companies. So do your research and find a company that can print in full color, full bleed for less than $.30 per postcard.
Be Consistent
Keep the design of your postcard similar to your other marketing materials to help with brand identification. For instance, the same general layout elements like white space or fonts or colors will help consumers start recognizing your postcards as they come in the mail. With postcard printing, a recognizable design means that customers will get excited every time they receive your postcards since they know you have a new product to announce or a discount to offer.

What NOT To Do in Business Card Printing
Using business card printing to present a good image of your business sounds simple, right? It can be, but only if you are careful not to do the following:
http://www.BreeneGraphics.com
Do NOT print your own business cards.
There is no excuse for at home business card printing. Not when you can have them professionally printed for the same cost and in under a week. The quality of professional business card printing is far better then any well meaning do-it-yourself business card printing.
Do NOT use overly bright colors.
Colors can be used to draw attention to your card. However, overly bright colors or too many different colors will distract from the purpose of your business card. Colors are a great way to connect your business cards with your brand, so choose two colors that look nice together and then use them for all of your marketing materials. Use them for your logo and/or place them in your card design.
Do NOT use cheap paper.
A flimsy card stock will send a terrible impression of your company. The way your card feels in hand will make a big impact on the image of your business. Choose a thicker paper for your card. Or, if you are a specialty business, try out rubber, magnet, or metal materials for business card printing. But for most of us, a thick, coated paper stock is the best choice.
Do NOT get too wild with your design.
You do not need to get too wild in order for your card to stand out. Remember that the main goal of your business card is to attract customers. If your card is outrageous, then you will lose customers who are looking for a serious company with which to do business. Subtle changes like rounded edges or unique textures are enough to make you memorable.
Do NOT clash your design with your logo.
Your logo connects your business card with your business and as such should be treated as the star. Do not choose a business card printing template that clashes with your logo. Also, do NOT make your logo too large. A tastefully small logo that stands out simply because of its great design is stronger than a logo that screams “LOOK AT ME.”
A classic design is the way to go with business card printing. Make your business cards classy and make them connect with your company brand.

We often receive files from PCs and Macs and unfortunately, a lot of the available fonts are not interchangeable. So we’ll most likely tell our clients to outline their fonts before giving us final files. In our particular case, we like working with PDF files, and Illustrator and Indesign both have good font outlining features. You have to remember to select ALL font items in your artwork before doing the outlining!
We like outlining fonts because sometimes embedding them doesn’t do the trick. This is because not all fonts are created equally, and sometimes older fonts don’t get embedded right. A lot of times some particular “creative” out-of-the-ordinary fonts are not created as well as the tried and true “standard” fonts, so outlining them is the best way for us to print them.
When it comes to Quark, we usually ask for the fonts and do the conversion in house, before going to press.
As usual, feel free to call us with any questions!
